My Top Five Fantasy Books
Hey people! Fantasy is one of my favorite genres of all time. These books' mystical settings and mind-blowing creativity are so addicting and cool. This is why I have created a narrowed down of my favorites. Don't get me wrong. Choosing all my favorite fantasy books was hard, but I tried my best. As a disclaimer, I won't use dystopian or sci-fi type books, only fantasy.
1. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
This book is actually one of my favorite books of all time. The character's personalities and development were terrific, the plot was well thought out and made sense, the setting was creative and detailed, and the book was a masterpiece. I read this book one day and practically ran to the second one. It kept me hooked from the beginning, and my attention never left this book because of how addicting it was. But other than that, I absolutely loved the Kanej (Kaz and Inej) romance thing the book had going on. It was a slow burn but then again, not. It was like, arghhhh, when will they accept they like each other. As much as I loved the other romances, this one held my attention more because of how complicated it was. Love this book. You should read it.
2. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (Folk of the Air Series)
This book is so mystical and enchanting for the most part, at least. I loved the court politics and spies part so much too. The magical element and the character's dark and mysterious personalities blended well. The magical creatures and ideas of the fae with horns, goblins, and other creatures like that were entertaining, and I loved it. Also, I loved the characters. Especially Jude and Cardan. I love that Holly Black doesn't overdo the characters' personalities. For example, she doesn't make Jude seem like that one annoying character trying to be that mean scary character that no one fears. No! Jude IS the rebellious, strong, and resilient main character we need. Additionally, I have to say that the enemies-to-lovers romance is a subplot that takes a WHILE, so if you don't kike that, this might not be the book for you.
I really liked this book. The plot line was definitely unpredictable. There was something I didn't expect would happen, which I loved about this book. Additionally, I really liked the characters. They were interesting to see develop throughout the book, which kept me interested. The character romance was also decent, with an enemies-to-lover situation, which we always love. The character made this book good, but so did the setting. I loved the idea of magic forests and desert islands. It was excellent, which is really underrated for this book.
4. A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
This book was the most creative book I have ever read. These authors' books have some creative ideas behind the fantastic stories. This story has this idea of an alternate dimension or and only some people can get through with magic. I thought that was so cool and couldn't wait to see what keeps happening in the book. It was a long book that took a while, but I loved the end product. The characters were interesting, to say the least. They are either very headstrong or dying inside. No in-between, and I love it. Can't wait to see what else this author comes up with.
5. House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
I know I have said that SJM sucks and whatnot, but this book was decent. The modern twist to the original werewolves, fae, and witches was fantastic and a new take and the basics of fantasy. It was cool to see something new. SJM really grew from her old work before because we got unpredictable plotlines for once, which I loved. The ending to the second book of this series was DEFINITELY the most unexpected part of this book. I like the number of mysteries she leaves for us. It lets people who want to make unhinged theories and predictions use creativity and have some fun with it. Also, there is this one character who dies very early on. But she is still a significant character in the series. Never seen a dead person get so much attention in a book. It's like she was never quiet. I kind of liked it, with was also surprising. I can't wait for the new book coming out for this series.
Anyway, that's it. I hope you read some of these books. As always, happy reading!
