Top Four Books I Read this Summer
Hey people. This summer, I read a total of 33 books. I am narrowing down what I enjoyed the most to share with you guys. So this is my list of the top 5 books I read in the summer.
1. Truly, Devious Series by Maureen Johnson
MOST DEFINITELY, the top spot goes to the Truly Devious series by Maureen Johnson. This book is a mystery thriller with a fantastic mystery that continues through three books. You can read two additional books, but they take place after the main event of the first three books. The main character Stevie Bell applies to a private and prestigious school called Ellingham and, to her shock, gets in. Stevie LOVES mysteries and true crime, so her main reason for going there is to solve the ancient mystery about who murdered the daughter and wife of the founder of the school, Albert Ellingham. Stevie takes it upon herself to solve these mysteries and maybe the suspicious incidents happening in the school at that moment. Something I like about this book is the dual mysteries in this book. I have explained the two mysteries above, but I love how the stories are told combined in a horrifying yet creative way. In addition to that, I also loved Stevie Bell's character. The book displays her as an eccentric person who doesn't always fit in. This is a great way to show that not all main characters are perfect but can be a little different, which is something many people can relate to. As well as Stevie's characters, the supporting characters, Nate, Janelle, and David, have unique personalities. They are all lovable (except for David...), and I like how they contribute to the plot. Overall, this book exceeded my expectations with a great story. Interesting characters and attention-grabbing writing. Although the books after the first three could be better than the original, I recommend reading them. As a five-book series, all in all, I give this book a solid 4/5.
2. Six Crimson Cranes
I don't think I should put much "review" in this because I have already made a review on this book which you should read., Still, this book follows how the main character (Shiori) accidentally gets herself banished and forgotten for spying on her stepmother doing forbidden magic. The stepmother also turns her six brothers into cranes; for every word, Shiori says, one of her brothers will die. Did I mention that Shiori and her brothers are royalty from her kingdom? Besides that, I really liked the fantasy aspect of it. It was something different from the fantasy I usually read, which was a good change in perspective. The storyline completely enchanted me, and I will be reading the second book soon. With all things considered, I rate this book a 4/5 and recommend it.
3. Crescent City series by Sarah J. Maas
I have said many things about SJM, but this book was different. I genuinely enjoyed it, and it differed from what she usually writes. If it was a mix of fantasy and sci-fi, I never thought this combination would work, but it did, and I'm not complaining. But there is something I need to mention. The ending to the second book. WHAT WAS THAT. If anything, I never expected that to happen. Mrs. Maas here gave us slight hints of this happening in her other books, but did we really hope it to happen? I was in pure shock from that ending alone. At this point, I need SJM herself to pay for MY therapy because this shocked me to the CORE. This is no cameo. It's a crossover. (If you know, you know.) But something else I liked was all the unanswered questions she leaves us throughout the book. For example. WHO IS HUNT'S FATHER, and WILL HUNT AND BRYCE end up together? People are coming up with the most unhinged theories, and it's so chaotic; I love it so much. Overall this series gets a 4/5 as well. Go read this book.
This book series is character driven so if you don't like that this series is not for you. Honestly it's hard to summarize this series because of how different each book is but its continues a story of each friend in a friend group and their challenges in whatever career they are doing. Personally my favorite book in the series is Twisted Lies but they are all equally good. Something I liked about this series is that all the books are connected in one way of the other which is cool to see how it all comes together in the end. I would this series a 4/5 as well.
That's it I hope you read these books! Happy Reading!
