Review: Every Summer After by Carley Fortune NO SPOILERS
Hello, and welcome to this review. After seeing all the hype for this book, I had to go check it out. Not going to lie; I went into this with some high expectations. But were they crushed, stomped on, and made into fine a powder that went directly into the trash? Yes. 100% yes. I gave this book a not-so-solid 2/5 on Goodreads and in my personal list of reviews. You might be thinking," Hey, Avi. Why did you give this book 2 stars when you were so adamant about saying how much this book sucked". Well, I would say for you to buckle up and finish reading this review.
First up is the summary. So the story is about this girl named Persephone who goes by Percy and how she got into some considerable drama in the seventh grade, and now she is going to live in this lake house her parents just bought to stay away from the drama. There, she meets two boys who are her new neighbors. One boy is two years older than her, and his name is Charlie. The other boy is her age, and his name is Sam. Sam is on the quieter side of Percy, and they hit it off and become good friends. Fast forward to the present, like 17 years later, and Percy is now disconnected from Sam. She hasn't spoken to him in over 10 years and doesn't want anything to do with him due to some things that happened over 10 years ago. But then she gets a call from Charlie, and he says that his mother died and that he wants her to come to the funeral. Now, she has to face her fears and see Sam.

This book goes from flashbacks to the present, which I liked. The flashbacks were cute and added depth to the story. That's the only good thing about this book. This book is WAYYYYY similar to Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren. It is way too similar to that book. It threw me off. But I was like, okay, she can take inspiration, right? NO. This book is like the Dollar Tree version of the Christina Lauren book. And you wanna know something that I didn't like as well. This book has the cheating trope. Yeah, that horrid trope. I HATE the cheating trope. This makes characters so annoying and shallow. Speaking of shallowness. Both of the main characters are just so stupid and bland. I have never hated book characters more. They were constantly making bad decisions. Sometimes I get it. Wrong choices can lead to the plot, but these decisions were too many, and they could have done more to improve the book. This book gives me the summer I turned pretty vibes but 20 times more unhinged and chaotic. Some things in this book made me question my life, and who thought these things were acceptable to put in a book? The flashbacks are the only reason this book got a second star.

Anyway, that's it. I think you should only read this book at your own risk because this book is horrid. Well, I hope you find some better books to read. Happy Reading!
